Also called dumbak. The player lays the instrument across both knees and strikes the drumhead with both hands. The drumhead is laced onto the body with a cotton cord. The player usually beats the middle of the drumhead to produce a low-pitched sound, or the edge to produce a hard, dry sound. Generally is used as an accompaniment instrument and in folk ensembles.
