A solo instrument used for playing classical music. The player sits cross-legged on the floor and holds the instrument at a diagonal to the torso, plucking the strings with a pick (mizrab) worn on the instrument is a device called jhuwari. It gives a characteristic buzzing quality due to the admixture of many overtones.
