In Bali a large form of this instrument is called kulkul, and is hung from towers next to assembly room halls used for gatherings. The instrument in the collection is engraved with what seems to be a depiction of the witch Rangda. Being overly decorated, it may only be a sound producing tool or something bought at a tourist gift shop.
