Struck with the right hand, the instrument is usually used together with the baya which is played with the left hand. Various timbres can be produced by playing in various ways with the palm of the hand and the five fingers. The black spot in the center of the head determines the pitch and enhances the timbre. A wooden dowel is used for turning. The instrument is used for accompaniment and solo playing in classical styles.
