The tension of the head is adjusted by screws on the side of the body of the instrument. The drum is placed in the lap, clamped beneath one arm, and played on the drumhead with both hands. When the middle of the head is struck with the fingers, a low sound (tom) results; when the head at struck at the rim, a sharp dry sound (bak) is produced. Various sounds can be produced.
