body: bamboo, with snake skin over front face ; L.44.4cm
strings: 2, skil
bow: 1
tuning: g' -d"

The instrumant is placed on the player's left knee and played with a bow held in the right hand. The strings are pitched with pressure of the left hand. This instrument is somewhat smaller than the Chinese-erfu which closely resembles the jing-hu used in Peking opera. Used in minshingaku ensemble music, in which it plays a melody almost identical to that of the gekkin.
