The player sits cross-legged with his right leg slightly forward and holds the drum with the right head tilted up. Tuning paste made of cookcd rice and iron powder is applied to the right drumhead. Played with the fingers and palms of both hands. Used in South Indian classical styles. In this example, the drumhead is for female vocal accompaniment.
