Conclusion of a Partnership Agreement for Establishing a Joint International Curriculum for Global Art
On February 23rd, Tokyo University of the Arts concluded a partnership agreement with three of the world’s leading art universities; ?University of the Arts London, The ?cole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts Paris, and ?School of the Art Institute of Chicago, to establish a “Joint International Curriculum for Global Art.”
The Agreement was concluded to make way for the establishment of a new “Joint International Curriculum” (or, in future, joint degree) with the aim of furthering the partnerships fostered to date. This new joint venture between leading arts universities aims to cultivate global human resources that transcend national borders, and support joint production projects through collaborations between faculty and students. The partner universities will focus on international art festivals (biennale and triennale) to be held in Japan and overseas, including the Ueno Gardens project.
The Signing Ceremony was attended by Mark Dunhill, Dean of CSM School of Art at University of the Arts London, Nicolas Bourriaud, Director of ?cole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, and Paul Coffey, Vice Provost at School of the Art Institute of Chicago, who signed the agreement, exchanged firm handshakes and discussed global development strategy with President Miyata in the President’s Office.
Representatives from the overseas partner universities commented that, “The establishment of a global partnership between the four universities in the different countries is a splendid and highly meaningful development. While it is now important to develop the joint program specifically under the concept of global art, the positioning and implementation of this project as a joint international curriculum is highly significant.”
By developing the “Joint International Curriculum for Global Art” in a permanent, stable, and progressive manner, it is expected that the conclusion of the partnership agreement will also help bring the universities closer together and observe an increase in their exchange.
